Introduction

GST Reforms 2025  is the biggest buzz in India right now. PM Modi had announced in a speech on 15 August 2025 that before Diwali, the GST slab will be simplified and only 2 slabs – 5% and 18% – will remain. Since then, there has been a discussion in the market that it will have a direct impact on cars, houses, daily food items and two-wheelers. According to experts, it  can become a big Diwali gift for the common man.

Car Sales Down: Customers Waiting for GST Cut

  • Passenger vehicle sales fell by 7.3% in August 2025.
  • Sales of big companies like Maruti Suzuki and Tata Motors have come to a standstill.
  • The reason is simple: customers are waiting for small cars to become cheaper by 7–8% after the GST slab cut.
  • After PM Modi’s announcement, the demand has been postponed.

Real Estate Sector: Will Buying a Home Be Easy?

  • Current GST: Cement 28%, Steel & Tiles 18%, Paint 28%.
  • Due to these high rates, the prices of houses go up.
  • If the GST slab goes up to 18%, the construction cost will be reduced and it will be affordable to buy a house.
  • Experts are saying that middle-class buyers will get big relief.
  • But  due to imported interior items on luxury homes, the cost may increase slightly.

Daily Treats: Chocolate, pastries and ice cream can be cheap

  • There is a proposal in the GST Council to reduce GST on chocolate, pastries, ice-creams and cornflakes from 18% to 5%.
  • If approved, these products can be cheaper by 20–30%.
  • This will further grow the packaged food market and consumers will benefit.

Two-wheeler industry: Demand for an equal tax

  • Siddharth Lal, MD & CEO of Eicher Motors (boss of Royal Enfield) has demanded that all two-wheelers should be charged the same 18% GST.
  • Currently, bikes above 350cc attract higher GST which hurts the industry.
  • If a uniform GST slab comes in, the Indian 2-wheeler market can be further strengthened globally.

Experts’ opinion

  • Cars – Sales will fall in the short term, but demand will rebound after the GST cut.
  • Real Estate – Affordable housing will be boosted, middle-class buyers will benefit.
  • Food Items – Demand for FMCG products like chocolates and ice-creams will increase further.
  • Two-Wheelers – India can become a global leader with uniform tax.

Conclusion

GST Reforms 2025 Big Update is a news that is important for every Indian. Whether you want to buy a car, own a house, or prefer chocolates – everything can come cheaper. PM Modi has called it a Diwali gift , and if it is implemented, its impact will be positive on both the economy and the common man.
