The Government of Nagaland has officially created a new district, Meluri, as per the Gazette Notification No. GAB-I/Adm-1/CREATION/21 dated November 2, 2024. Following this, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has assigned the State Bank of India (SBI) as the Lead Bank for the newly formed district. The district has been allotted the working code “02R,” which should be interpreted as ‘numeral zero, numeral two, and alphabet R.’ This move ensures the proper functioning of financial and banking services in the new district. Importantly, there is no change in the Lead Bank assignments for the other districts in Nagaland. The designation of SBI as the Lead Bank for Meluri district is part of ongoing efforts to ensure effective financial management in all districts of the state.

Assignment of Lead Bank Responsibility
The Government of Nagaland has notified formation of a new district, viz., Meluri in the state of Nagaland vide Gazette Notification No.GAB-I/Adm-1/CREATION/21 dated November 02, 2024. Accordingly, it has been decided to designate the Lead Bank of the new district as below:
