he Maharashtra government has issued a significant amendment to the Maharashtra Value Added Tax (VAT) Act 2002, impacting VAT on Petrol and Diesel. This amendment, effective from June 29, 2024, introduces crucial changes to tax rates and applicability across specified areas. The Maharashtra government said that it is reducing VAT on diesel from 24% to 21% and from 26% to 25% on Petrol for Mumbai and Navi Mumbai.

NOTIFICATION

MAHARASHTRA VALUE ADDED TAX ACT, 2002.

No. VAT 1521/CR-97/Taxation-1.— In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 9 of the Maharashtra Value Added Tax Act, 2002 (Mah. IX of 2005), the Government of Maharashtra, hereby amends the SCHEDULE ‘ B ’ appended to the said Act, with effect from the dated 29th June 2024 as follows namely :—

In the Maharashtra Value Added Tax Act, 2002, in SCHEDULE ‘ B ’,—

(1) in entry 5,—

(a) in sub-entry (a), in clauses (i) and (ii),

(i) in column (2), for the words “ Municipal Corporations of the Brihan Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai and within such other areas for such period as may be notified by the State Government in the Official Gazette ”, the words “ State of Maharashtra” shall be substituted;

(ii) in column (3), against clauses (i) and (ii) for the figures, and signs “ 24% ” the figures and sign “ 21% ” shall be substituted;

(b) sub-entry (b) shall be deleted;

(2) in entry 10,—

(a) in sub-entry (a), in clauses (i) and (ii),

(i) in column (2), for the words “ Municipal Corporations of the Brihan Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai and within such other areas for such period as may be notified by the State Government in the Official Gazette ”, the words “ State of Maharashtra” shall be substituted;

(ii) in column (3), against clauses (i) and (ii) for the figures, and signs and words “ 26%+Five rupees and twelve paisa per litre” the figures, signs and words “ 25%+Five rupees and twelve paisa per litre” shall be substituted;

(b) sub-entry (b) shall be deleted.
