Rourkela, 16 December 2020 – Directorate General of GST Intelligence, Bhubaneswar Zonal Unit has arrested one person, namely Santosh Kumar Gupta, age about 45 years, from Rourkela for issuance of fake invoices to the extent of Rs. 262 Cr. and passing of illegal and unlawful Input Tax Credit to the extent of Rs. 40 Cr. The arrest was made after carrying out detailed investigation and conducting searches at several premises to gather incriminating evidence.
The said person was arrested on 16.12.2020 and produced before the Hon’ble Sub-Divisional Jurisdictional Magistrate Rourkela and was remanded to Judicial Custody.
The arrested person floated fake GST firms for the sole purpose of issuance of fake tax invoices without supply of goods or services, for a commission, to various business entities. By these activities, he facilitated fraudulent availment of GST credit by these business entities. GST on such fake invoices was paid using ineligible Input Tax Credit, taken without receiving any supplies. In the process GST Credit fraud of Rs. 40 Cr. on invoice value of Rs. 262 Cr. was committed by the arrested person. Directorate General of GST Intelligence, Bhubaneswar Zonal Unit is conducting verification of the business entities who have availed fraudulent GST Credit to protect interests of Government Revenue.
Further investigation in the matter is under process.
