Sub: Request for access the Central University’s library for students and members of ICSI
Your good self may kindly be aware that the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) is a statutory body constituted under an Act of Parliament, i.e. the Company Secretaries Act, 1980 to regulate and develop the profession of Company Secretaries. The Institute functions under the .jurisdiction of Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Government of India. It has nationwide presence with its headquarters at New Delhi, 4 Regional offices and 73 Chapters spread all over India. The ICSI has on its rolls around 60,000 members and more than 3 Lakhs students pursuing the Company Secretaryship Course across the country. A Company Secretary is governed by the Code of Conduct contained in the Company Secretaries Act, 1980 and is, therefore, subject to disciplinary jurisdiction of the Institute.
The Institute encourages its members to undertake research in wide range of areas like Corporate Laws, Corporate Governance, Corporate Social Responsibility, Capital Market, Finance, International Business, Accounting, Management, etc. where our members have the expertise, academic acumen and interest in undertaking research.
The members of the Institute occupy senior positions in corporate hierarchy. Section 203(3) of Companies Act, 2013 provides that every company belonging to such class or classes of companies as may be prescribed shall have the Company Secretary as whole-time key managerial personnel.
The expertise of the members of the Institute has also been recognized in academic field. Many Company Secretaries are involved in the field of teaching/training and acting as guest faculty in Universities/Colleges and other Academic Institutes.
With a view to encourage the members and students to undertake research, we take this opportunity to request your good self to kindly issue directions to the Central Universities across the Country to give access to their Library for our members and students which will act as magnet that draws writers, readers, researchers to their quality collection and beautiful ambience. The ICSI shall provide its hundreds of own publications and CS course material which can be kept in a separate shelf inside the library(ies) for the benefit of the readers. It fulfils the aim to promote excellence inter alia in common area of interest, imparting knowledge and skills required to operate in the area of education and research.
Students and members of the ICSI may be provided the membership of the library as per the norms of the Central University(ies).
It would be a great honour, privilege and encouragement for our members and students, if you, could kindly accede to our request and issue the directions to all Central Universities across the Country to provide the accessibility to their library to our members and students.
