CBI ARRESTS AN ASSISTANT COMMISSIONER AND A SUPERINTENDENT, BOTH OF CENTRAL EXCISE IN A BRIBERY CASE

The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested a Superintendent and an Assistant Commissioner, both of Central Excise, posted at Chennai-I Division, Nandanam, Chennai for demanding & accepting a bribe of Rs.11,000/- from the complainant.

A case was registered on the allegations that the Superintendent of Central Excise, Chennai-I Division, Nandanam, Chennai was demanding a total bribe of Rs.11,000/- for himself and for his Assistant Commissioner from the complainant for handing over the copy of the Accepted General Bond for Rs 20 lakhs, in favour of his firm for procurement of Excisable Goods for export without payment any Excise duty and for issuing of certificate under Form CT-I against the said General Bond.

CBI laid a trap and the accused was caught red handed while demanding & accepting the bribe of Rs.11,000/- from the complainant. The Assistant Commissioner was also arrested. Searches were conducted at 5 places which led to recovery of incriminating documents and cash of Rs 29.15 lakhs(approx) & Rs.18.50 lakhs(approx) worth FDRs.

Both the arrested accused were produced before the Special Judge for CBI Cases, Chennai and remanded to Judicial Custody.
