CBI Arrests 4 Income Tax Officers for alleged undue favour to Kolkata based infamous entry operators
CBI ARRESTS FOUR INCOME TAX OFFICERS AND A PRIVATE PERSON IN AN ONGOING INVESTIGATION OF A CASE
The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested four Income Tax Officers posted at Ranchi, Koderma, Hazaribag and a private person (Businessman of Kolkata) in an on-going investigation of case.
All the arrested accused were produced today in the Court of Special Judge, Ranchi (Jharkhand) and remanded to Judicial Custody.
It may be recalled that CBI had registered a case on 10.07.2017 against Principal Commissioner of Income Tax, Ranchi; Additional CIT, Ranchi; ITO (Tech), Ranchi; Another Officer of Income Tax, Ranchi; six private persons and other unknown public servants/private persons/companies etc. u/s 120-B of IPC r/w sections 7, 12, 13(2) r/w 13 (1)(d) of PC Act., 1988 on the allegations of criminal conspiracy, illegal gratification and criminal misconduct etc. It was alleged that the Principal Commissioner of Income Tax, Ranchi had entered into a criminal conspiracy with Additional CIT, Ranchi, ITO (Tech.), Another Officer, Income Tax Department & five private persons, all Kolkata based businessmen & infamous entry operators and a CA of Kolkata for getting Income Tax assessment files of their different assessee companies transferred from Kolkata/ Hazaribagh to Ranchi for providing undue favor to those assesses, who had been charged with heavy tax liability, in lieu of huge bribe. Searches were conducted at the premises of accused persons at 23 locations (18 at Kolkata & 05 at Ranchi). A total cash of Rs. 3.7 crore (approx.): 6.6 kg. gold (approx.) and some incriminating documents including document related to a flat worth Rs. 4 crore (approx.) were recovered during the search at the premises and one locker of Principal Commissioner of Income Tax. The Principal Commissioner of Income Tax, Ranchi was arrested on 12.07.2017 during investigation of the case and presently, he is in Judicial Custody.
Further investigation is continuing.
