A meeting on ‘Litigation Management’ in CBEC was held on 01.08.2017 under the chairmanship of Revenue Secretary. The Revenue Secretary has directed “that the appeals pending involving revenue more than Rs. 10 crore should be an area of special attention”.
2. As per data available on Directorate of Data Management Website, as on 30.06.2017, there are total 3047 cases involving revenue of Rs. 10 crores or more pending in Supreme Court/High Court/CESTAT of which 31 cases (Customs-10, Service Tax-3 and Central Excise-18) are pending for more than 10 years, which is worrisome. Further there are 339 cases (5-10 years), 539 cases (3-5 years) and 1154 cases (1-3 years) pending before Supreme Court/High Court/ CESTAT involving Revenue of more than 10 crores. Zone wise pendency of such cases is enclosed.
3. I urge you to make concerted efforts towards liquidation of these pending cases by way of filing Miscellaneous Applications for early hearing/vacation of stay for early disposal of these cases in a time bound manner.
