Notification No. 35(RE-99) dated November 29, 1999, amends the ITC(HS) Classifications of Export and Import Items under the Foreign Trade (Development and Regulation) Act, 1992. The key amendment pertains to the import of betel nuts (Areca nuts). The notification classifies whole and split ground betel nuts under the “Restricted” category. These items are not permitted for import unless done so under a license or in accordance with specific public notices issued for this purpose. Additionally, an entry for betel nuts (split ground) is removed from the classification. This amendment aims to regulate the import of betel nuts and restrict their availability to licensed importers or those complying with applicable public notice guidelines. The notice was issued in public interest to manage the trade of these consumer goods.
