SUBJECT: Clarification regarding exportability of Onion as a part of assorted vegetable.

Attention is invited to the entry at S.No. 16 of Schedule 2 Appendix 1 of the book titled “ITC(HS) Classifications of Export and Import Items, 1997-2002 “, which stipulates that under the Current Exim Policy, export of onion as a part of assorted vegetables is allowed freely upto twenty kgs. only per consignment by air to all permissible destinations subject to any other law for the time being in force.

2. However, instances have come to the notice of this office that the above said export is not being allowed by various Customs Authorities on the pretext that export of Onion is currently banned under the Exim Policy.

3. It is therefore, clarified that as per S.No. 16 of Schedule 2 Appendix 1 of the book titled ” ITC(HS) Classifications of Export and Import Items, 1997-2002, ” export of onion as a part of assorted vegetables is allowed freely upto twenty kg. only per consignment by air to all permissible destinations subject to any other law for the time being in force despite the continuing restriction on the export of onions.
