INCOME TAX OFFICER SENTENCED TO UNDERGO THREE YEARS RIGOROUS IMPRISONMENT WITH A FINE OF RS.35 LAKH IN DISPROPORTIONATE ASSETS CASE
The Special Judge for CBI Cases, Bhopal has convicted Shri S.K.Soni, the then Income Tax Officer, Bhopal U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(e) of PC Act and sentenced him to undergo three years Rigorous Imprisonment with a fine of Rs.35 lakh in disproportionate assets case.
A case was registered on 13/09/1999 against Shri S.K.Soni, the then Income Tax Officer, Bhopal U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(e) of PC Act, 1988 on the allegations that he had amassed huge wealth to the tune of Rs.6,25,000/- disproportionate to his known sources of income.
CBI filed a charge sheet on 31/10/2001 in the Court of Special Judge for CBI Cases, Bhopal against Shri S.K.Soni, the then Income Tax Officer, Bhopal and three others U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(e) of PC Act, 1988 and U/s 120-B and 109 IPC. Three private persons had filed a criminal revision in the Hon’ble High Court of M.P., Jabalpur challenging the charges framed against them. The High Court, Jabalpur had quashed the charges framed against one of the three accused on 11.03.2007. During trial, the other two accused died.
The Trial Court found the accused S.K.Soni, the then Income Tax Officer guilty and convicted him.
