The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) has taken various initiatives including extensive career orientation, professional development programmes, brand building exercise and extensive research projects.
Addressing a press conference here, Mr Vinayak S. Khanvalkar, President, ICSI, said ICSI’s priority would be to ensure that student services are more effective and efficient. The institute will make endeavour to see that they are appropriately skilled to meet the expectations of corporates.
He said the institute had already implemented the new syllabus and a new training template is being implemented. It has also set up a Students Education Fund Trust to provide financial assistance to economically backward students with good academic record.
With a view to spreading the reach of the course to remote areas and smaller towns, the institute had launched Web-based e-learning programme for the CS Foundation Programme. The response has been encouraging. The modules for Executive Programme have been finalised. Mr Khanvalkar, who was here in connection with a seminar organised by ICSI Kochi Chapter, said that efforts would be made to launch Post Membership Qualification (PMQ) course in Competition Law and Corporate Insolvency and Restructuring. In addition, the focus would be on organising short-term courses and collaborative programmes to provide exposure to members in diversified areas.
Globalisation efforts
The institute along with its counterparts in Bangladesh, Kenya and Pakistan took the lead to constitute International Federation of CompanySecretaries with its Secretariat at the ICSI, New Delhi. Nepal Institute of Company Secretaries has recently joined IFCS.
The move will help the company secretaries in different countries to come under an umbrella to build the global brand “Company Secretary”. It will also help the profession to work unitedly at the WTO and such multi-lateral fora.
