A Mumbai-based social worker has threatened to press charges against the I-T department for placing ads in various newspapers, which allegedly disrespect the national flag. According to Sundeep Sharma , the advertisement, which urges people to pay advance tax, shows a child saluting the national flag with his left hand .

This is disrespectful. I will press charges unless the I-T department takes appropriate redressal measures, Sharma said. The flag code does not mention which hand should be used for saluting.

However, section V of the flag code prohibits the use of the national flag in any form of advertisement . I-T department director (public relations and publications ) Amitabh Gupta said, The advertisement was made for us by a creative agency. The error was brought to my notice. We will be withdrawing the advertisement and issue a clarification in a day or two.
