OTP Failure on Tax Portal Delays Professional Tax Payments in Karnataka; Due Date Extension requested

The representation dated April 23, 2026, submitted by the Karnataka Taxpayers Association to the Commissioner of Commercial Taxes, Karnataka, highlights significant technical issues faced by taxpayers while paying Professional Tax for FY 2026–27 through the official portal. The association reported persistent glitches on the portal, particularly the failure of the OTP authentication system, which has prevented many taxpayers from completing payments despite genuine efforts. With the due date of April 30, 2026 approaching, these technical disruptions have caused widespread concern regarding non-compliance and potential penalties. In light of these difficulties, the association has requested immediate rectification of the portal issues to ensure smooth functioning and restore accessibility. Additionally, it has sought an extension of the due date by one month to provide adequate relief to affected taxpayers and enable them to fulfill their statutory obligations without penalty.

Subject: Issues in Professional Tax Payment FY 2026-27 through Online Portal and Request for Extension of Due Date.

Respected Sir,

The Karnataka Taxpayers Association (R), an NGO representing Taxpayers across the state, would like to bring to your kind attention the ongoing difficulties faced by taxpayers in paying their Professional Tax through the official portal https://pt.kar.nic.in.

Till today the portal is experiencing severe technical glitches, and the OTP system for authentication is not functioning effectively as like previous year 2025-26, as a result, a significant number of taxpayers are unable to complete their Professional Tax payment. With the due date for payment being 30-04-2026, there is considerable anxiety among taxpayers as they are unable to meet their compliance obligations despite genuine attempts.

Given the scale of the issue and the technical problems with the portal, we earnestly request you to:

1. Take immediate steps to rectify the portal and ensure smooth functioning of the OTP system.

2. Extend the due date for Professional Tax payment by an additional one months to accommodate affected taxpayers and avoid penalties.

We trust that your good office will take prompt action to address this matter and provide relief to the taxpayers of Karnataka.
