The Directorate General of Foreign Trade, under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, has amended the export policy for wood pellets (HS 44013100) and wood briquettes (HS 44013200) with immediate effect through Notification No. 04/2026-27 dated 6 April 2026. Exercising powers under the Foreign Trade (Development & Regulation) Act, 1992 and the Foreign Trade Policy, 2023, the government has reclassified wood pellets from “Prohibited” to “Restricted” and wood briquettes from “Free” to “Restricted.” As a result, exports of both items are now allowed only under a Restricted Export Authorization, subject to prescribed conditions. The amendment modifies Chapter 44 of ITC (HS) 2022 Schedule-2 (Export Policy). The notification aims to regulate exports of wood-based products by introducing stricter controls while still permitting trade under authorization. Exporters must now comply with licensing requirements, marking a significant policy shift in India’s export framework for these commodities.
