Notification No. 51/2010-Income Tax In pursuance of the provisions contained in sub-clauses (iv) and (v) of clause (23C) of section 10 of the Income-tax Act, 1961 (43 of 1961) read with sub-rule (2) of rule 2C of the Income-tax Rules, 1962, the Central Board of Direct Taxes hereby makes the following amendment in the notification of the Government of India, Ministry of Finance (Department of Revenue) Central Board of Direct Taxes, number S.O. 851(E), dated the 30th May, 2007, namely

Notification No. 50/2010-Income Tax In exercise of powers conferred by clause (xii) of sub-section (2) of section 80C of the Income-tax Act, 1961 (43 of 1961), the Central Government hereby specifies the Immediate Annuity Plan of the ICICI Prudential life Insurance Company Limited, as approved by Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority, as the annuity plan of the ICICI Prudential Life Insurance Company Limited for the purposes of the said clause for the assessment year 2007-08 and subsequent years.

Professionals earning over Rs 10 Lakh to file Online Income Tax Return

Professionals, including doctors, lawyers and chartered accountants, earning over Rs 10 lakh annually will be required to file income tax returns electronically, the Finance Ministry said today. Besides, all business entities and Hindu undivided families (HUFs) with a business income of over Rs 40 lakh per annum will also be required to mandatorily file income tax returns in the electronic format, the ministry said.

New Pension Scheme (NPS) has a tax edge, but watch out for annuities

The New Pension Scheme (NPS) is likely to get a makeover if the revised Direct Tax Code is implemented. However, the government is doing its bit to lure investors to take a close look at the NPS. Recently, the government announced the ‘Swavalamban’ scheme through which it would add Rs 1,000 co-contribution every year for the next three years for everyone who joins the New Pension Scheme in this financial year. Any NPS subscriber who invests Rs 1,000-12,000 per annum between April 1, 2010 and March 31, 2011, will get Rs 3,000 free from the government.

Ulip-holders have to pay up to Rs 6,000 if they want to discontinue a policy within first four years

Insurance regulator Irda on Monday said Ulip-holders will have to pay up to Rs 6,000 if they want to discontinue a policy within the first four years. The Irda (treatment of discontinued linked insurance policies) regulation, 2010, released by the sectoral watchdog today, said the charges for discontinuation of Ulips will range from Rs 1,000 to Rs 6000, depending on the premium paid by the policyholder.

Service tax applicable on all cashless mediclaim transactions from July 1 2010

A new 10.3% service tax has been introduced on all cashless mediclaim transactions from July 1, to be paid by Third Party Administrators (TPA) to hospitals later. What does this mean for consumers? Income-tax Ombudsman Guidelines 2010

The Ombudsman shall have the powers to –(a) receive complaints from taxpayers on any matters specified in clause 9;(b) consider such complaints and facilitate their satisfaction or settlement by agreement, through conciliation and mediation between the Income Tax Department and the aggrieved parties or by passing an ‘award’ in accordance with the Guidelines;

In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of Section 210A of the Companies Act, 1956 (1 of 1956), the Central Government hereby makes the following amendment in the notification of Government of India, Ministry of Corporate Affairs, published in the Gazette of India , Extraordinary, dated the 21st July, 2009 vide number S.O. 1800(E), dated the 21st July, 2009, namely :–In the said notification for the figures “20-7-2010” wherever they occur, the figures “20-8-2010” shall be substituted.
