The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested a Senior Tax Assistant, Income Tax Office, MVP Colony, Visakhapatnam for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.30,000/- from the complainant.

CBI registered a case U/s. 120-B of IPC and Sec. 7 & 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) of PC Act, 1988 against the accused on the allegations of demanding a bribe from complainant for closing the complaint received against his wife.

The complainant alleged that Income Tax Officer, Ward -2(2), Visakhapatnam issued a notice to his wife directing her to file Income Tax Returns for the year 2013-14 by 26.09.2017. On 21.09.2017, the Senior Tax Assistant contacted the complainant and informed him that they received complaint against his wife alleging that she possess several properties. The complainant also informed the accused that he received Notice from Income Tax Office, Sankara Mutt Road, Visakhapatnam. The accused allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs.50,000/- and said that the Income Tax Officer would close the complaint. Later on, the demand was reduced to Rs.30,000/- .CBI laid a trap and caught the accused red handed while demanding & accepting a bribe of Rs.30,000/- from the complainant. Searches were conducted at the residential and office premises of both the accused which led to recovery of several incriminating documents.

The arrested accused was produced before the Special Judge for CBI Cases, Visakhapatnam and remanded to Judicial Custody upto 12.10.2017
