CA. Uttam Prakash Agarwal, President, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), has been awarded with the honorary membership of the Certified Practising Accountant of Australia by Prof. Richard Petty, President, CPA Australia Ltd. CPA Australia is one of the largest accounting bodies in Australia. CA. Uttam Prakash Agarwal was bestowed with this honor during his visit to Washington D.C. to attend the Board Meeting of International Federation of Accountants (IFAC is the global organization for the accountancy profession to protect the public interest by encouraging high quality practices by the world’s accountants) .

This was a historic moment for the Institute as it was the first time that such an honor was bestowed on any President of the ICAI. The honor was in recognition of his efforts made to build ties across respective organizations at international levels. In a major move to expand the professional horizons of Indian Chartered Accountants, in February 2009, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India has signed a Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) with CPA Australia Ltd, to recognize the qualification, training of each other and admit the members in good standing by prescribing a bridging mechanism.

CA. Uttam Prakash Agarwal, was also awarded an honorary membership of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (ICAA is the professional body representing Chartered Accountants in Australia) by Mr. Graham Mayor, CEO of ICAA in October 2009 during his visit to Australia where he was heading ICAI’s International Study Tour to Australia.
