The RBI has directed banks to simplify claim settlements for deceased depositors. New rules mandate speedy processing with minimum documents for nominees and survivors.
(1) These rules may be called the Senior Citizens Savings Scheme Rules, 2004. (2) They shall come into force on the 2nd day of August, 2004.
In the Foreign Exchange Management( Transfer or Issue of Security by a person Resident outside India) Regulations, 2000, In Regulation 2, after item (vii), the following item shall be inserted, namely:- (vii) (a) ‘ Non-resident Indian (NRI) shall have the meaning assigned to it in clause (iv) of Regulation 2 of the Foreign Exchange Management (Investment in Firm or Proprietary Concern in India) Regulations, 2000.’ in item (viii), the words ‘ Non-resident Indian (NRI)’ shall be deleted;
The sale/maturity proceeds (net of applicable taxes) of shares or convertible debentures purchased under this Scheme shall be credited only to NRSR account where the purchase consideration was paid out of funds held in NRSR account and to NRO or NRSR account at the option of the seller where the purchase consideration was paid out of inward remittance or funds held in NRE/FCNR/NRO/NRNR account.
Provided further that where the remittance is made in more than one instalment, the remittance of all instalments shall be made through the same authorised dealer.
As you are aware, Reserve Bank has put in place a comprehensive regulatory and supervisory framework in January 1998, in terms of which certain measures were taken for protecting the interests of depositors and for ensuring that the NBFCs function on sound and healthy lines.
