Nowadays, many articles are published on various websites, YouTube videos are being uploaded and news channels are showing footages regarding fake coins of Rs. 10.  I have studied this aspect in detail and by this article, I want to bring to your kind attention the true story of fake Rs. 10 coin.

What is widely spread rumour? As per widely spread rumour, coin with 10 strips is real and coin with 15 strips is fake. One more rumour is spread by some people that only the coin with rupee symbol is real one and all other are fake. But here I want to bring to your kind attention the fact that rupee symbol was presented to the public by the Government of India on 15thJuly 2010. So, obviously, coins minted in 2008, 2009 and 2010 may not have that symbol on them. Further, in some coins minted in 2011 also, there was not a rupee symbol on it.

Following is the image of Rs. 10 “real” coin “with rupee symbol” on it. [Image No. 1]

Please don’t allow your heart to be agitated, as the following is the image of Rs. 10 “fake” coin “without rupee symbol” on it and “with 15 strips”. [Image No. 4]

Now, observe very carefully image no. 2, 3 and 4 again and try to identify differences in real one and fake one. In image no. 4 (i.e. fake coin), (1) strips are not properly arranged, (2) all strips are of nearly equal width, (3) words “Rupees” are not properly minted on it (4) words “सत्यमेवजयते” are not properly minted on it and (5) national emblem is not properly minted on it.

But, in real coin of Rs. 10 (image no. 2 and 3), (1) strips are decently arranged, (2) all strips are not of equal width but width of strips gets reduced one by one in both directions,(3) words “Rupees” and words “सत्यमेवजयते” are very decently minted on it and (5) national emblem minted on it is very perfect (see difference yourself).

Further, it is also a rumour that Rs. 10 coin is not legal tender. RBI officials have also clarified through media that Rs. 10 coin is legal tender.

So, we should accept Rs. 10 coin with due precautions.
