On 22nd September 2017 to further terrorise the taxpayers and Professionals Income Tax Department has come up with a new requirement by which it has specified that from now onwards a Mobile number and Email address could be used only for three Income Tax Accounts instead of current limit of 10 accounts. Due to such change from this date when a Taxpayer tried to Login in his account and if his Email and Mobile is been used for more than three accounts he has to compulsorily change his mobile and Email address for that account to get a login into that account.

We already had few posts on the subject by which, we discussed why such requirement was undesirable in Tax Season, how it was implemented without Considering Practical Issues and without having discussion with impacted stakeholders.

We at TaxGuru published some of the letter / Post written by Our Guest Authors on the subject and highlighted the impacted of changes made by the department and requested them to take this step back. Relevant Post on the subject on Taxguru are as follows:-

Open Letter to PM related to income tax profile update on e-filing website

An Open Letter to Income Tax Department (Systems)

Open letter to CBDT on restriction on use of Email & Mobile Number

3 Changes on Income Tax Website WEF 22nd September 2017

Considering the Practical Problem people also started bombarding Twitter and Facebook wall of concerned officials showing their displeasure over the new implemented restrictions in use of Email Address and Mobile Number for Income Tax Account and other such things like recent Proposal to make taxpayer disclose his Income on Half Yearly basis by inserting Rule 39A. Some of such tweets are as follows:-

https://twitter.com/SriniSatish/status/910160275185188864

https://twitter.com/DesiTraderJI/status/911170795921010688

Sensing the mood of Taxpayers through such tweets and various open letters submitted to Income Tax Department and concerned officials,  Income Tax Department has decided to provide Relief from this unplanned Income Tax Login compliance and has made the same optional. Now you can skip the page demanding new email, bank account info on Income tax Login.  To login without filing newly required Information’s   Click on Skip Button at the bottom of the page.

Salute to power of Social Media. We at Taxguru request all taxpayers and professionals that if we do not like a move by government we all should atleast tweet on the subject to Government and share our views with them. If we do not stand for ourselves no one else will. No one saves us but ourselves. No one can and no one may. We ourselves must walk the path.

Protests or NO protests. I am convinced that very powerful forces are quietly conspiring to bring down Modi Govt by stealthy manner of which the Ministers, they are sure, will NOT react.
IT Department will drag their feet after raids; but harass the lowly honest Tax payers.
If the Techies claim all intelligent, Aadhar is now linked to PAN, Bank Accounts, Voter ID, Ration Card, Mobile Phones etc. etc., WHY CAN’T THEY DATA MINE IT INSTEAD OF SEEKING INFORMATION FROM TAX PAYERS.
If they cannot do it why harass us to Link Aadhaar to everything ?

The day to day change in income tax rules and procedures is causing head ache and trouble some to individuals who self declare their income and file the returns; the individual also files IT returns for his near relatives. There are various practical solution to catch defaulters, Many of the Government and PSU pensioners still do not pay income tax. The pension disbursement officers to effect TDS before the pension amount is sent to banks for disbursal. . It is better that the 22.09.2017 is cancelled and taken back,

MODI has become a law unto himself. Thinks that he will rule by always remaining in the news and limelight by taking unnecessary measures like that. Modi is an idiot in smirt robe. Winning election always does show ur popularity. But time will tell Modi’s prowess. He is on hot haste and destroying the economy systematically. May good sense prevail on this idiot.

If the IT Dept wishes to change any e-filing procedure, they should give the assesses adequate time .. Change in procedure like this, should be done only well before the e-filing season, not in the middle, as they did now.

  9. S Vanaja says:

    Dear Sir
All the draconian laws of IT India should Repealed Forthwith & the IT RATES should be drastically reduced to a minimum of 5% & Max 10% Only. Further the GOI should Immediately create a User Friendly Software to enable all the citizens to automatically come into IT NET Voluntarily. THE GOI by bringing down the TAX rates as suggested above, can totally wipe off the all the Exemption sections of IT.Further by doing so the Public will be automatically filing IT Return every month as is being done with Sales Tax Dept & the IT Dues can very well be remitted in their respective bank accounts & there ends the matter for the month. If the Dept finds any due to govt by the assessee ,it can very well inform through MOB or e mail.If the the suggested slabs are introduced naturally the creation of Black Money will not be there. The present 30% & 40 % and penalty of equal amt remitted beyond the threshold limit etc are only a draconian law just to grab the hard earned money of the Genuine Tax Payer. The Present Modiji Govt Should have Political will to execute the Said Suggestion by an act of parliament

  11. RADHESHYAM MODI ADVOCATE says:

THE INCOME TAX DEPARTMENT SHOULD REVEAL THE LOGIC AND REASON TO ARRIVE AT THE FIGURE OF THREE TO EACH E-MAIL ID AND MOBILE. THE CALCULATION AT THE FIGURE OF THREE SHALL BE REVEALING WHAT APPREHENSIONS THE DEPARTMENT CARRIES FOR THE TAX PAYERS. THERE SHOULD BE JUSTIFICATION WHICH WOULD BE APPRECIATED BY THE TAX PAYERS IF IT IS JUSTIFIABLE.

  12. Sunil says:

This Govt. after getting a clear majority due to no strong opposition party, now thinks that they can do anything and harass the Citizens. If the trend continues the same masses will show the power of their vote to the Govt. Its high time Govt. realises this and concentrate more on nabbing people who washed off their hands during demonetization and work towards reducing inflation, increasing productivity, creating jobs and reduce Petrol/diesel prices. Another disaster the Govt is creating that of linking all Mobile Nos with Aadhar. While Aadhar was created they did not incorporate Mobile Nos. in Aadhar data and names were incl. fathers name whereas in PANcard and many other areas, Fathers name was not compulsory. Now the Govt wants aadhar mobile no and names t match or esle they want masses to run from pillar to post to get the Aadhar data corrected. Even after sending Aadhar modification Forms , they failed to modify the data due to technical errors. looks like we are living in North Korea!

Let the government focus on development issues rather than on such trivial & unproductive matters.Government should concentrate on big fishes and recover loans which are turning bad on daily basis.

  15. KARTHIK says:

Why this intiative not taken for swiss accounts and political corruption and Govt. official corruption because they knew people are bakkars by saying anti-corruption we can trouble them how much we want…. if they trouble politicians and Govt officials then their position only question so no person do like that… best example is petrol rate, service tax rate from 12.36% to 18%, all export services now through bond or IGST pay… such stupid decisions…
