The current financial year 2008-09 the Investigation Wing of the Income Tax Department, Kolkata, has so far seized unaccounted cash of Rs 65 Crore and other assets to the tune of Rs 11 Cr. Multiple searches have led to disclosure of income to the tune of Rs 360 Cr so far.
Some of the noteworthy cases are of entry (Jamakharachi ) operators, investment companies, mining concerns and real estate developers. Such operations were conducted on an all-India scale and involved multiple premises and stations, information about which was meticulously gathered by the tax sleuths working on the cases.
In the case of a concern engaged in the mining and sale of iron ore, concealed income of more than Rs. 110 crores has been detected and the seizure of cash of Rs 30 crores in this case has been a record for the eastern region and also among the highest in the entire country. Another business group engaged in the business of excavation and transportation of coal with a total of 38 premises spread out throughout the country was also searched, which has admitted undeclared income of Rs. 80 crores based on the findings of the search and survey action wherein seizure of cash and jewellery amounting to over Rs. five crores have been made.
Two prominent real estate developers of Kolkata were also searched during this period. In the face of incriminating documents found and investments unearthed, the groups taken together surrendered an amount of more than Rs. 37 crores as their undisclosed incomes. Unaccounted cash and jewellery of Rs 4.30 crores was seized in these cases.
Cases were also taken up in the Durgapur-Asansol region, covering a group engaged in manufacturing and trading in sponge iron. Here, the voluntary admission of concealed incomes touched Rs. 12.50 crores with seizures of unaccounted cash and jewellery at over Rs one crore.
Coal pilferage is a main business in Asansol and Raniganj belt where the looted booty is shared from top to bottom. The pad system of operation causing several thousand crores of loss to the ministry of coal. Political bigwigs of ruling and opposition all in-hand glove with the local coal mafia with patronage of political leaders. Only once the Ministry of coal or finance involved then this menace will stop. The coal mafia would never shy away from showering huge cash to all those conducting raid. In a corrupt country like ours everything gets settled under table or let’s say at the corrupt judiciary level. Hence my advice is just concentrate on yoir work and stop inviting trouble for yourself as well as your family. In twin towns Asansol and Raniganj life can be taken away with a 375 ml bottle of liquor and one bullet worth 80rs.
The reason why we call our nation great is because it gives freedom to everyone carry on illegal activities and loot the nation.
