The Pune Income-Tax office has made elaborate arrangements to reduce inconvenience of tax payers whose last date of filing of return is July 31. As part of this, a ‘return mela’ has been launched on the campus of Income-Tax Lane on Karve Road.

“For every ward there are separate counters for refund returns, non-refund returns and counter for senior citizens and ladies, along with other facilities like drinking water, canteen facility and so on. Income tax volunteers are also available to guide people where to go and file the returns,” said a press release.

A special counter “ PAN checking counter for refund returns” with more than eight laptops and computer assistants to check the PAN and guide where to go and file the returns have also been arranged.

“Many return filers have expressed that this is a very important counter because in the past refunds of so many people were delayed due to incorrect PAN by mistake or otherwise. The visitors have also appreciated other counters like help desk, grievance cell, literature counter, counter for tax education and space for two TRPs with four assistants and other facilities,” said the release.

There’s a cost attached to all these arrangements. Instead if the Govt. Announces, say for the next 2 years that all the E_Filed Returns of Individuals, would be eligible for a Special Refund / Credit of 100 per Return, quite possible the number of E_filers would increase. This is just an inducement for Tax payers to shift to e-filing mode.
