CBI ARRESTS A DEPUTY COMMISSIONER OF INCOME TAX DELHI AND THREE OTHERS IN AN ALLEGED BRIBERY CASE OF RS.1.5 LAKHS

The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested a Deputy Commissioner of Income Tax (DCIT) M Logapathy, an IRS Officer of 2008 Batch, from his office Chamber at C.R. Building, ITO, New Delhi  while  demanding & accepting an alleged bribe of Rs.1.5 lakhs from an advocate. CBI has also arrested the bribe giver Hitesh Kumar (an Advocate) who was acting as middleman; Logapathy’s personal attendant Abhishek Kumar and businessman Vikas Singla Director CBS Steel Private Limited.

CBI has registered a case against Deputy Commissioner of Income Tax, Circle  5(1)(2) and (3), Central Revenue Building, New Delhi and others under relevant Sections of IPC & PC Act. It was alleged that the said payment was being made on behalf of an assessee, a Director of private steel company based at Pitam Pura, New Delhi in lieu of extending undue favour in a tax evasion case.

Searches were conducted at 12 locations including the office & residential premises of the accused in Delhi, Ghaziabad and Pondicherry which led to recovery of property documents; tax related files; FDRs; hard discs; pen-drives and other incriminating documents.

The arrested accused were produced today before the Designated Court at Delhi and remanded to police custody for 3 days.

Further investigation is in progress.

    it is rare that some income tax official is arrested for bribery. That too in Delhi !!! People don’t report to CBI etc as they fear revenge from income tax authorities. No wonder they are called “wardi wale gunday”.

    Let there be an awareness in our country. Searches should be conducted extensively and intensively through out our country and unearth huge sums of black money and punish those involved so that country is cleaned once for all and happiness is restored. Do not spare any body as no one is above law and justice.
