VAT in UAE: Tourists will be able to reclaim UAE VAT

Tourists to the UAE will be able to claim back the VAT paid on purchases they make while visiting the UAE except residents of the GCC countries and airlines crew members.

As per FTA, the UAE Cabinet may issue a decision soon on introduction of ” Tax Refunds for Tourists Scheme” which will specify the effective date of scheme, mechanism of tax refunds, verification process and any other limit or conditions of refunds.

Some of the key conditions to apply on Tax Refunds for Tourists:

Tourist must have purchased the goods with personal presence in the country.

Tourist must be intending to leave the country within 90 days of purchase along with goods.

Goods must be exported outside the state within 3 months from the date of purchase.

Some of the goods may not be eligible for Tax Refund scheme which will be notified by the FTA.
