The Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) continues to enhance the National Pension System (NPS) experience for subscribers. In Circular No: PFRDA/2023/35/Sup-CRA/11 dated 6th Dec 2023, a new digital mode of contribution through personalized QR codes of D-Remit has been introduced.

1. Background on D-Remit

Currently, NPS subscribers have the option to contribute directly from their bank accounts using D-Remit. This 15-digit D-remit ID, added as a beneficiary in internet banking, facilitates voluntary contributions. Launched in May and October 2020, it has gained significant traction, with 10 Lac D-remit IDs created and approximately Rs 2700 crores deposited.

2. Introduction of QR Code Contribution

PFRDA now allows NPS subscribers to contribute through D-remit-based Quick Response (QR) codes. These unique codes, different for Tier I and Tier II accounts, enable seamless contributions through any UPI-enabled application.

3. Eligibility Criteria

Only subscribers with an active D-remit ID can utilize QR code-based contributions. The process involves creating the D-remit ID/Virtual ID on CRAs’ websites. The circular outlines the step-by-step process for depositing contributions through QR codes.

4. Digital Signature

The circular is issued under Section 14(1) of the PFRDA Act, 2013, read with Regulation 18 and 19 of the PFRDA (CRA) Regulations. It bears the digital signature of K. Mohan Gandhi, Chief General Manager.

5. Process Flow for Different CRAs

  • CAMS CRA: Subscribers can log in, click on contribution, initiate contribution, and select virtual account status. The QR code is then scanned through any UPI app.
  • KFin-CRA: Subscribers need to visit the eNPS login page, click on the transaction menu, and choose “Subsequent Contribution.” Upon selecting the payment mode as “UPI,” the QR code for the respective account type is scanned through any UPI app.
  • Protean CRA: Subscribers can visit the e-NPS contributions page and authenticate. Alternatively, they can log in to their NPS account, choose “Contribute Online” under the “Transact Online” tab, and select the same-day investment option. Unique QR codes are displayed for scanning.

6. Conclusion

With this innovative step, PFRDA ensures a more convenient and efficient contribution process for NPS subscribers. The introduction of QR codes aligns with the authority’s commitment to providing an enhanced digital experience. Subscribers are encouraged to explore this new feature, making their NPS journey even more seamless and user-friendly.

Subject: Convenience of NPS Contribution through Personalized QR Code of D- Remit

As part of PFRDA’s commitment to provide the NPS subscribers with an enhanced experience during their NPS journey, another digital mode of contribution has been enabled.

2. Currently, the subscribers are provided with the option of contributing directly from their Bank Account using D-Remit. The D-remit Id contains 15 digits which has to be added as a beneficiary in Internet banking while transferring voluntary contribution from the subscribers’ Savings Bank The facility of D-remit and its benefits was launched vide Circular dated 12th May 2020 & 1st Oct 2020. The option of D-remit is widely used by subscribers and till now nearly 10 Lac D-remit IDs have been created across sectors and subscribers from various sectors have collectively deposited approx. Rs 2700 crores of contributions since the launch of this feature. It may be noted that contributions received by Trustee Bank till 9.30 AM in its working day and on settlement days are invested on the same day and eligible for same day NAV.

3. NPS subscribers can now contribute to their NPS accounts using the D-remit- based Quick Response (QR) code. The subscribers can scan the QR code and make contributions using any UPI-enabled application. The QR code is unique to each subscriber which can be saved offline for making payments and the QR codes are different for Tier I and Tier

4. Only subscribers who have enabled D-remit Id can make the QR code-based contributions into NPS. The subscribers can create the D-remit Id/Virtual Id on the websites of CRAs. The process flow to deposit contribution through QR code is placed at Annexure for ready
