The Corporate Affairs Ministry today said it was collecting information on all franchisees of IPL teams and described this as a part of normal practice for any company and was not a probe. “My ministry is merely collecting information that we should have in the normal course of those companies that are franchisee companies,” Corporate Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid told reporters here.
The Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA), he added, was not conducting any probe but was only doing the due diligence as lot of questions have been raised publicly about the ownership pattern of the franchisee companies.
“My ministry is not conducting a probe…. Because a lot of questions are raised publicly…we should do our due diligence,” Khurshid said.

What is the purpose of merely collecting information on all franchisees of IPL teams as a part of normal practice for any company and not for a probe? Does it not tantamount to a lot of govt money, translated into money value of the man hours to be/being spent in the ministry/field offices, huge TA-DA Bills of the officers for their “official” (!) tours to “collect” the information which wuold have no legal/evidential value before a court of law, should the need arise later to rely on the ,info. thus collected “officially” but not through/in any legally initiated proceedings? And, if that is so, do the common people/tax payers have to bear the burden of these “academic” pleasures of the bureaucrats and their cosy travels/stay outside HQs?
This is improper.
