The Indian Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has relaxed the norms for students aspiring to become chartered accountants. Until now an aspirant had to clear common proficiency test for chartered accountancy (CPT) after Std XII or graduation. Now there is an option of becoming a CA without clearing CPT. The existing option will continue to be available.ICAI president G Ramaswamy told the media on Saturday that students who have completed two years of graduation can directly appear for Intermediate Proficiency Competency Course (IPCC) – which is the final step in becoming a CA – after doing apprenticeship. Even those students who have not appeared for Std XII exam but have done a diploma and a vocational course followed by two years of graduation also need not appear for CPT.

Ramaswamy further said that ICAI would not provide question papers to students 15 minutes before the examination began so that they go through the question papers and strategize their answers.

Decision taken by ICAI for introducing 15 Minute reading time has greatly affected Positively and will affect Negatively by removing, to the result of the students. so, it is advisable to go with older system of having 15 Minute reading time.

I am totally against the step which is taken by our honourable ICAI. it`s put down the image of CA & ICAI, so please do`nt impliment this rule.

It is a good step taken by our institute removing the difficulty regarding cpt exam. & allowing diploma student to enter into ca course. But removing 15 mins for reading question is not correct.

  4. Pramod says:

Althogh it is a great reliefe to the students . By declaring that CPT is not mandatory. But withdrawing the 15 minute reading time again shows that, As per its Name ” The Institute of Chartered Accoountants of India” is the Institute is only for Chartered Accountants not for CA students.

Great relief for students doing diploma in accountancy after Xth pass.
Moreover, simply to decide the calibre of student on basis of Objective test
without knowing his descriptive power as well as understanding of subject is
not proper. This is a good decision by Institute.

I am totally against the step which is taken by our honourable ICAI.This rule will put down the image of the CA. So its my humble request to our ICAI do not impliment this rule.

  7. CA student says:

Why is icai removing the mandatory 15 mins? if they had to remove, why did they put it in the first place?
This is taking 1 step first, and 2 steps back.
