CBI ARRESTS A CHARTERED ACCOUNTANT FOR ACCEPTING BRIBE OF RS. 60,000/-

The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested a Chartered Accountant for demanding & accepting an alleged bribe of Rs. 60,000/- from the Complainant.
A case was registered under section 8 of PC Act, 1988 against Chartered Accountant on the allegations of demanding bribe of Rs.2,00,000/- from the Complainant. The Complainant (who runs business of mobile handsets & accessories) has alleged that Income Tax Officer, Ward No. 2(4), Faridabad (Haryana) had issued a notice to him regarding assessment of his income. After receiving the notice the Complainant discussed the matter with the CA who informed that he has also received copy of the same notice and has discussed the matter with ITO. The complainant has further alleged that a meeting was also held in the office of ITO along with the CA and during this discussion, the complainant came to know that CA was demanding bribe of Rs. Two lakh on behalf of said ITO for settling the issue. On the request of the Complainant, the CA reduced the bribe amount to Rs. 1.50 lakh and agreed to accept Rs.60,000/- as first instalment. CBI laid a trap at Faridabad wherein the Chartered Accountant was caught red handed while demanding & accepting bribe of Rs,60,000/-. Searches were conducted at the official premises of Chartered Accountant, which led to recovery of relevant documents.
The arrested accused will be produced today in the Court of Special Judge, CBI Cases, Panchkula (Haryana).
