“Foreign company” means any company or body corporate incorporated outside India which— a)has a place of business in India whether by itself or through an agent, physically or through electronic mode; and b)Conducts any business activity in India in any other manner.
Reserve Bank has granted general permission to foreign companies to establish Project Offices in India, provided they have secured a contract from an Indian company to execute a project in India, and i. the project is funded directly by inward remittance from abroad; or
Direct investment outside India means investments, either under the Automatic Route or the Approval Route, by way of contribution to the capital or subscription to the Memorandum of a foreign entity or by way of purchase of existing shares of a foreign entity either by market purchase or private placement or through stock exchange, signifying a long-term interest in the foreign entity (JV or WOS).

WHETHER LICENSE MANDATORY FOR AMCs: Yes. No person shall carry on or advertise that he carries on money changing business unless he is in possession of a valid money changer’s licence issued by the Reserve Bank.
