Introduction: The Government of India, through the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Department of Commerce, Directorate General of Foreign Trade, has issued Notification No. 79/2023-DGFT, dated 18th March 2024, regarding an amendment in the import policy condition of Urea. Previously, import of Urea for agricultural purposes was allowed through RCF and NFL, with additional import allowed through IPL until 31st March 2024. Additionally, import through IPL is extended until 31st March 2025.

The revised policy conditions now stipulate that import of Urea for agricultural purposes on Government account shall be allowed through designated STEs or entities authorized by the Department of Fertilizers for filing BEs at Indian ports.

The effect of this notification is significant, as it extends the period for import of Urea through IPL and introduces clarity regarding import procedures and entities authorized for government account imports.

Subject: Amendment in import policy condition of Urea [Exim Code 310210101 in the ITC (US) 2022, Schedule – I (Import Policy) – Regarding.

S.O. 1473(E): In exercise of powers conferred by Section 3 and Section 5 of Foreign Trade (Development &Regulation) Act, 1992, read with paragraph 1.02 and 2.01 of the Foreign Trade Policy (FTP), 2023, as amended from time to time, the Central Government hereby amends the policy condition of Urea [EXIM code 31021010] of Chapter 31 of ITC (11S), 2022, Schedule 1 (Import Policy), with immediate effect, as under (changes made are given in bold letters):

This issues with the approval of Minister of Commerce & Industry.
