After Swan and Unitech Wireless, the Income Tax Department is looking into the tax implications of a deal between Datacom solutions and the Videocon Group after the former was allotted 2G licences in 21 circles for Rs 1,507 crore in 2008. In a complex structure, Videocon Telecommunications was originally incorporated as Datacom Solutions, a group company of Himachal Futuristic Corporation Limited (HFCL).
At a time when the government is grappling with the black money menace, the RBI has penalised as many as 48 small banks in just six months, for lapses in implementing customer identification norms and various other violations. In the first six months of 2011, the apex bank has slapped penalties on 48 erring banks , mostly co-operative, as compared to just 15 such actions during 2010. The apex bank has so far slapped penalties between Rs 1 lakh and Rs 5 lakh on 48 banks during January-June period, according to official data.
A top Income Tax officer and his chartered accountant aide were arrested by CBI on the charge of accepting bribe of Rs 2.20 lakh from a software engineer for showing an official favour. The accused, R P Meena, commissioner of Income Tax (Appeals) and his aide U P Pai were arrested last night for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 2.20 lakh from the complainant working in a private firm, said joint director of CBI, Rishiraj Singh.
Asserting that Companies that have not filed annual returns and balance sheet to Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) for past five years have been put on notice, a senior official of MCA today said there were 80,000 such companies in Northern India.
Now railway passengers can get their e-tickets on their cell phones instead of normal print-outs. Named as ‘m-ticket’, the mobile phone-based ticket booking system envisages a passenger to book his train ticket through mobile phones and carry the display ticket, sent to his cell phone through an SMS.

The assessee-trust registered under section 12A and also approved under section 80G(5) was found to have more then 3/4th of of its total receipt for organizing ‘Bhagwat Katha’; section 80G(5B) limits expenditure on activities of religious nature to 5% of income for year; since expenditure in instant case exceeded 5% and violated section 80G(5B), approval under section 80G was withdrawn with observation that Bhagawat Katha is religious notwithstanding its public character and being open to all castes and religions.
