Names of chronic income tax defaulters would be made public as part of government's crackdown on tax evasion and black money. Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee disclosed Sunday that the government was working on a number of strategic initiatives to curb generation of black money and for its detection, including the feasibility and methodology of putting the names of chronic tax defaulters in public domain.

Tax defaulters beware! With tax recovery to the tune of more than Rs one lakh crore held up for lack of information about the whereabouts of defaulters, the Income Tax(I-T) department is working on plans to publish their names in newspapers. The problem has been further compounded with several of the tax defaulters having created 'benami' assets to escape the dragnet.

Tax defaulters beware. The income tax department is considering publishing the names of habitual tax defaulters with large tax demands pending. According to official sources, the department is planning to compile a list of all cases, where there is a tax demand of over Rs 1 crore with no pending appeals.
