Planning commission favoured phased withdrawal of stimulus

Expressing satisfaction at the 7.2 per cent growth estimates for this fiscal, the Planning Commission on Monday pitched for phased withdrawal of stimulus in the forthcoming budget to be unveiled by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee on February 26.

RBI hikes CRR by 75 bps, No Change in Reverse Repo Rate and Repo rate

RBI has increased cash reserve ratio by 75 bps to 5.75 Percent , the hike would happen in two stages, the first stage of hike of 50 bps will be effective from February 13 and the next 25 bps from February 27. RBI has not touched the the reverse repo rate which is at 3.25 percent and repo rate which is at 4.75 percent. CRR hike would suck out Rs 36,000 crore liquidity from the system.

Union budget for 2010-11likely to be presented on February 26

The annual budget date is being advanced from the normal practice of being presented on February 28, because February 27 is a government holiday on account of Prophet Mohammad's birthday and February 28 is a Sunday. The Cabinet is expected to approve the date soon.

Government may get banks audited to check if they passed on the Interest subvention benefit to exporters

The government may soon ask for an audit of banks to check if they are passing on to exporters the interest rate discounts on loans, given as a part of the stimulus packages, following complaints from exporters that some banks were not crediting to their accounts the rebate.Government is planning to ask the comptroller and auditor general to carry out an audit of banks to find out on a test check basis whether the subvention amount is getting credited to the account of ..
