No proposal to get the statutory auditors appointed by a Regulatory Authority in respect of listed companies

The Minister of State in the Ministry of Corporate Affairs Shri R.P.N. Singh today informed the Lok Sabha that the statutory auditors of the companies incorporated under the Companies Act are appointed u/s of the Act. Replying to a written question the minister said there is no proposal to have the statutory auditors appointed by a Regulatory Authority in respect of listed companies like in the cases of Banks and Government Companies.

List of RBI forwarded to Banks for Central Statutory auditors for financial year 2009-10

Government of India vide their letter F.No.1/14/2004-BOA dated November 21, 2008 had advised all the public sector banks (PSBs) to follow the Road Map for implementation of autonomy in the matter of appointment of statutory auditors. As per the Road Map, RBI will forward to the PSBs a list of eligible audit firms containing the names of firms equal to twice the number of vacancies identified for the year 2009-10.
