Increase in gratuity exemption limit made applicable to all employees

Notification:-The Central Board of Direct Taxes (“CBDT”) has extended the enhanced exemption limit of INR 10 lakhs to the employees of companies who do not fall under the provisions of the Payment of Gratuity Act, 1972. The notification will be effective from 24 May 2010.

ICAI employees call off strike after 20% pay hike

Employees of accounting regulator, the Institute of Chartered Accountants (ICAI), late night on Thurday called off their two-day old strike, after the management agreed to their demand for a salary hike. "The management has given us a 20 per cent hike in January's gross salary, which has been credited to our salary accounts," ICAI Employees' Association Secretary Deepak Kishore told PTI.
