The central government paid Rs.1,983 crore as income tax refund during financial year 2008-09, while it was Rs.1,308 crore in 2007-08 and Rs.1,922 crore in 2006-07, Minister of State for Finance S.S. THE Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) has issued instructions to identify sensitive posts in various Ministries/Departments of the Union Government. The Commission has issued instructions to the organizations under its advisory jurisdiction regarding rotation of officials working in sensitive posts. As per the instructions, the organizations were to identify the sensitive posts and effect rotational transfer on these posts every 2 or 3 years to avoid development of vest.. Full Article

THE Central Government has sanctioned 116 posts for the Central Information Commission. The Commission has constituted a Committee to assess its staff requirement. The Government shall examine the report of the Committee as and when received. The Commission has been allotted a plot of land in Delhi for construction of a building of the Commission. Full Article

The Corporate Affairs Ministry is expected to bring out the code on corporate governance in a year's time. Mr Salman Khursheed, Minister of State for Corporate Affairs, said on Monday that the final code would be based on the draft common minimum code, which would be out for public review by the third week of December. Ministry of Human Resource Development has proposed to introduce a scheme for full interest subsidy during the period of moratorium on loans taken by students belonging to economically weaker sections from the banks under the Education Loan Scheme of the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) for pursuing any of the approved courses of studies in technical and professional streams from recognised institutions in India.
