SEBI tells listed companies to run updated websites from 1st April 2011

Having a website with up-to-date information at any given point of time will become mandatory for all the listed companies with effect from tomorrow -- a move aimed at providing investors with easy access to information. A notification by market regulator Sebi, which makes it mandatory for listed companies to have a functional website with latest details of various investor-sensitive information about them, will come into effect from April 1.

The Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) has shelved its idea of auditing the books of listed companies by independent auditors.It was part of the joint plan of market regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) and the ministry to conduct peer review of audits, which involves getting the audit reports of a company vetted by another auditor for a second opinion.

Income tax department, Mumbai unearthed recorded concealment of Rs. 1,315 crore

The investigation wing of the income tax (I-T) department in Mumbai has unearthed a record Rs1,315 crore in undisclosed income in the first nine months of the fiscal year, I-T officials said. The cases involve 16 companies, including 10 that are publicly traded. “Our searches have significantly improved collection of corporate taxes in Mumbai. More and more firms are voluntarily disclosing their income and paying up tax,” an income-tax official told on Friday.

SEBI circular on PAN requirement for transmission of shares in physical form

The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) vide circular ref. no. MRD/DoP/Cir-05/2007 dated April 27, 2007 made PAN mandatory for all securities market transactions. Permanent Account Number (PAN) mandatory for transferring shares to heir

The market regulator Sebi today said Permanent Account Number (PAN) is mandatory for transfer of shares to the heir in case the deceased shareholder was the sole owner of shares. "It is hereby clarified that it shall be mandatory to furnish a copy of PAN (on) transmission of shares to the legal heir(s), where the deceased shareholder was the sole holder of shares," a Sebi circular said.

ICSI recommended to fix the limit for maximum number of listed companies where one can be a director to seven

The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) has recommended to the Government that the maximum number of listed companies where one can be a director be restricted to seven.
