The taxpayer can track the status of its refund from the Departmental Website www.incometaxindia.gov.in / NSDL-TIN website www.tin-nsdl.com by clicking on ‘Status of Tax Refunds’.'Refund status can be tracked by entering the PAN and Assessment Year for which refund is to be tracked. Status of the refund can also be tracked by contacting the help desk of SBI’s at toll free number: 18004259760 or email at: – itro@sbi.co.in.

Income Tax Refund cases not yet entered on the system – Casual and cavalier attitude

All the CCITs, including the CCITs (CCA), were advised by the Board on Feb 28 & again on March 05 11 to provide data regarding paper refund cases not yet entered on the system. The CBDT feels anguished that, except CCITs Nagpur, Ranchi, Panaji & Guwahati, no other CCIT has taken care to comply with the Board’s appeal.

Processing of Income Tax refund – CBDT chairman asked to Process Income Tax Refund by March 15 2011

In the last Video Conference as also through a Message from the Chairman’s Desk, all the CCITs were requested to personally monitor processing of Returns & expeditiously issue refunds. Still, out of around 61.4 lac Returns entered in the system but not yet processed, around 6.39 lac Returns have refund claims. All CCITs are once again advised to please ensure that all pending refunds are necessarily issued by March 15 2011. As no data is available with the Systems regarding refund returns received but still not entered, all the CCITs are requested to provide on or before Feb 28, 2011 details of such cases to DIT (Sys) – III , New Delhi at dit3.systems@incometaxindia.gov.in.

Income Tax Dept told to disburse refunds within 2 months and to set up task force to revamp refund issue system

Mr Palanimanickam noted that the Department’s efficiency had to be benchmarked by the satisfaction level of the users. He highlighted that a major source of dissatisfaction of income-tax assessees is with respect to refund of taxes. “The time taken to grant refunds is very high when compared to international standards,” the Minister said, adding that the department should set up a task force to revamp the system of tax refunds.
