In 2010 Budget, infrastructure bonds were announced as one of the tax saving options to assessees whereby under section 80CCF of the Indian Income tax Act, investment upto Rs 20,000 in notified infrastructure bonds was allowed tax benefit by way of reduction from total taxable income. This is over and above Rs one lakh tax benefit available under sections 80C, 80CCC and 80 CCD.

Penalty should not be imposed if full disclosure of the facts of the case made by the Assessee

All overseas payments are subject to withholding tax, whether or not the income is taxable : Karnataka High Court

Due to recent ruling of Karnataka High Court order, all overseas payments will now be subject to withholding tax, whether or not the income is taxable. Not only is this in dramatic contrast to previous High Court decisions, it's also a judgment that will lead to higher cost of business, increased uncertainty and maybe even more litigation—at least for a while.

CBDT withdrawn circulars related to taxability of foreign companies and non-residents, engaged in specified business activities

The CBDT has cited that such withdrawal is on account of their interpretation by some taxpayers, seeking to claim relief, which was not in accordance with the provisions of the Indian Income Tax Act (Act) or the intention behind these circulars.
