Goods and Service Tax (GST) from taxman’s point of view

GST is just a VAT :-GST as you are aware is just value added tax (VAT) because when made a presentation to the chief minister this was an issue which I was asked - In three years you have somehow setup VAT and now you are talking about GST. I told them GST is VAT but two major more taxes are coming in but every other operation is like VAT.

Analysis of First Discussion Paper on Goods and Services Tax in India

Goods & Services Tax (GST) Model for India

The GST shall have two components: one levied by the Centre (hereinafter referred to as Central GST), and the other levied by the States (hereinafter referred to as State GST). Rates for Central GST and State GST would be prescribed appropriately, reflecting revenue considerations and acceptability. This dual GST model would be implemented through multiple statutes (one for CGST and SGST statute for every State).
