Committee on Comprehensive Regulation for Credit Rating Agencies suggests Strengthening of Existing Regulations

The Committee on Comprehensive Regulation for Credit Rating Agencies (CRAs), set up by the Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance under the Chairmanship of Dr. K.P. Krishnan, Joint Secretary (Capital Markets) with representatives from all the financial sector regulators, has felt that prima facie there is no immediate concern about the operations and activities of CRAs in India even in the context of the recent financial crisis.

SEBI circular on Internal Audit for Credit Rating Agencies (CRAs)

It is clarified that for the half-year October 2009 - March 2010, the CRA shall receive the report of the internal audit by May 31, 2010. Its Board of Directors shall consider the report and take appropriate measures to rectify the deficiencies and the CRA shall send the Action Taken Report to SEBI by July 31, 2010.

No single corporate client or group should account for more than a tenth of the total revenues of any audit firm and its associates, a committee on corporate governance set up by industry body Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has recommended to the government.

SEBI nullified quasi-judicial orders of its own benches

In its 17-year history, this is reportedly the first time that Sebi's board has nullified quasi-judicial orders of one of its own benches. The orders, if implemented, could have seriously embarrassed its chairman C B Bhave for his accountability in relation to an earlier assignment.
