Investors can buy and sell mutual funds units like shares from 07th December 2009

Investors will be able to transact in mutual funds units through the National Stock Exchange (NSE) from Monday. UTI Mutual Fund will be the first fund house to use the NSE’s mutual fund platform, which would enable exchange’s members to use its existing infrastructure for transaction in MF schemes.

RBI will ask banks to provide details of their direct and indirect exposure to Dubai

While RBI played down the issue, it emerged that Bank of Baroda (BoB) had an exposure of around $200 million (Rs 928 crore at Friday’s rates) to Dubai World, a senior bank executive said. “The amount is due for repayment only after 2011. It is paying interest and there are no overdues. So, we have absolutely no immediate concern,” a senior bank executive said.

Brokers oppose move to extend trading hours

The two largest exchanges in the country may not be extending their trading hours any time soon as brokers’ bodies are vehemently opposing the suggestion.A survey by the Bombay Stock Exchange Brokers Forum says that 79 per cent of the members of the forum areagainst the extension of trading hours on the exchanges.

Govt may introduce Governance code for unlisted companies

The Ministry of Corporate Affairs is all set to introduce a governance code for unlisted companies on the lines of the one for listed firms to encourage more companies to register on the stock exchanges. Elaborate disclosures and compliance with governance code is seen as one big reason why many companies do not want to raise public funds and list on exchanges.

Markets can now be open 9 to 5, says regulator. You could soon be able to trade for an additional two-and-a-half hours on stock exchanges with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) on Friday allowing trading between 9 a m and 5 p m to align timings to international standards.

The Income Tax (I-T) department has raided 12 Housing Development and Infrastructure (HDIL) premises, reports CNBC-TV18 quoting sources.
