SEBI moves SC seeking on the issue of power of SAT

The tribunal has set a wrong precedent by arrogating to itself the power vested in it, said Sebi. The tribunal had directed the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) to grant in-principle approval to the issue, allotment and listing of shares issued by a market participant to its promoters on a preferential basis. I-T department scrutnising frozen demat accounts having balance in excess of 10 lakh as on December 2008

More than 6,300 frozen demat accounts are now finding some claimants, giving new leads to the Income Tax department's probe in the matter pertaining to Rs 6,700 crore of unclaimed stocks. A number of accounts were lying idle since 2007 and no transactions were being carried out in them for almost two years. A number of such accounts have now been claimed which the department is scrutinising, official sources said.

After Retail Investor Sebi extended ASBA facility to corporate and HNIs

The market watchdog Sebi today extended the ASBA (application supported blocked amount) facility to corporate investors and high networth individuals (HNIs) to enable them to apply for IPOs or rights issue by keeping the application money in their bank accounts till allotment.
