Recently, the Income Tax Department has allowed quick filing of ITR 1 by salaried class assessees on its e-filing website itself, thereby reducing the burden of uploading the XML file. This happens to be one of the most easiest and convenient way of filing the return electronically.But, the user has to be cautious while feeding all the information because the information on income and prepaid taxes have to be filled up manually. Besides, the prepaid taxes column will show the figures automatically transferred from 26AS details but, if the assessee has greater amount of TDS or prepaid taxes than that shown in the 26AS details, then, he can enter it manually by overwriting the figure of greater amount under the respective columns of TDS or prepaid taxes, as the case may be. At the bottom of the form there is a button to either save the filled up return form as draft or submit the filled up return form. Once, the user clicked the submit button, the return will be sent to CPC and ITR V will be generated quickly which can then be downloaded in pdf form and required to be sent to the CPC within 120 days from the date of submitting the return online.

Pre-Check before submitting the return in ITR 1 :-

1. Ensure all personal details correctly entered in the return form ;

2. Ensure all income details entered correctly before clicking the submit button ;

3. Usually prepaid taxes are reflected automatically from Form 26AS. Ensure all prepaid taxes duly reflected or modified by the user manually before being submitted ; User has to give details of all the TDS claims and Advance tax, self assessment tax etc. even if the same is not reflected automatically in the relevant columns.

4. Ensure IFSC code and Bank A/c No. correctly entered as it is compulsorily to be entered even if user don’t have refund claim ;

5. Ensure Mobile No. and E-mail ID correctly entered so as to receive important communication from CPC on the status of your return of income filed electronically.

  1. Jay says:

    In my Form-26AS the income has the value including section 10 deductions. My total income under head salaries after deducting section 10 deductions in Form 16 is less than what it is there in TDS of Form-26AS.

    While efiling ITR-1 the amount showing mismatches as the TDS column retrieves data from Form 26AS. what should I do? Should I rectify that column with actual values after deducting section 10 deductions? Will it be a problem in future? Please guide.

    SIR,
    I AM FACING PECULIAR POSITION FROM THE TAX PAYERS WHO ARE IN NEED OF BANK LOANS AND THEY WANT THAT THE TOTAL INCOME ALONG WITH AGRICULTURAL INCOME SHOULD ALSO APPEAR ON THE ITR V (I.E. ACKNOWLEDGEMENT) SO THAT THEY CAN AVAIL MORE AMOUNT OF LOAN REQUIRED. THIS IS NOT POSSIBLE WHILE UPLOADING THE ITR 4. HENCE CAN WE REQUEST THE CONCERNED AUTHORITIES TO REDRESS THE GRIEVANCE, SO THAT WE CAN HELP THE NEEDY ASSESSEES TO BE BENEFITED.
    THANKS PREM SAGAR KUNDE

    To Mr. Nayan,

    Only columns with asterix marks “red” are compulsorily to be filled up. So, if you are an NRI, then you can select your status and Non-Resident. Further, if you don’t know you A.O., then go to income tax department website along with your PAN information, and from there you can find out your jurisdictional Assessing Officer.

    Hope successfully resolved your query.

    To Mr. G.K.Vashishtha

    Yes, you can alter the figures of TDS & prepaid tax if the same were more according to your 26AS statement. Pl. go to TDS & Prepaid tax menu and click on the relevant figures and enter the higher figures according to your 26AS details.

    Thanks for your query.

  5. Nayan says:

    As per my understanding not only salaried classes other tax payees can also use this quick filing facility. I need a clarification, whether I need to fill the Income Tax Ward and Division column. When I was in Chennai I used file my tax returns in Chennai, now I am an NRI and permanent address in Kerala and in my PAN also Kerala address is appearing. Now I don’t know who is my assessing officer.(I have not filed my tax returns for the last 4 years – since I don’t have any taxable income in India).

    Can somebody clarify,wehther it is mandatory to fill the Income Tax and Ward in the Quick e-filing returns

  6. SHABBIR says:

    Yes, because if agricultural income exceeds Rs.5000/- then, ITR 1 is not applicable. Hope, I have successfully resolved your query.

  7. P.K.Kundu, Advocate says:

    Instead of uploading xmal file, quick filing ITR – 1 & 4S
    no doubt is most easiest. But users must be cautious while
    feeding all the data and information.

  8. G K VASHISHTHA says:

    TDS , SELF ASSESSMENT TAX ETC ARE LESS IN QUICK E-FILING THAN THE DETAILS GIVEN IN FORM 26AS. MAY WE CHANGE /INCREASE THE FIGURES. ANY BODY CLARIFY PLEASE.

  9. SHANMUGANATHAN says:

    Sir,

    Thanks for your information.

    It is working perfectly. If we are selecting the option , select the information from last year return, it takes details of father name, address , etc. But it requires the details like gender , country in address column etc.

    Since, these details are constant, it may also be taken from previous return or from PAN data base., which may make these filing very perfect in all aspect.
