TWO YEARS RIGOROUS IMPRISONMENT TO THEN SUPERINTENDENT AND TWO THEN INSPECTORS OF CENTRAL EXCISE IN SEPARATE CASES OF BRIBERY
The Principal Special Judge for CBI Cases, Chennai has convicted Sh. G Murali Krishanan, then Superintendent, Central Excise, Chennai in a bribery case and sentenced him to undergo two years Rigorous Imprisonment with fine of Rs. 10,000/-.
CBI had registered a case against Sh. G Murali Krishanan, Superintendent, Central Excise, Chennai on the allegations of demanding a bribe of Rs. 50,000 from the complainant for issuing import documents (Bill of entry) while he was on deputation to Special Economic Zone. The Trial Court found the accused guilty and convicted him.
In another case, the Special Judge, CBI cases, Mirzapur, Ahmedabad has convicted Sh. Pradeep Kumar and Shri Rajesh R Bhambhani, both then Inspectors of Central Excise & Customs, Ahmedabad and sentenced them to undergo two years Rigorous Imprisonment with fine of Rs. 3,000/- each.
CBI had registered a case on a complaint, wherein it was alleged that Sh. Dilip Kalidas Rajaayaguru the then Inspector, Central Excise & Customs, Ahmedabad and others officials of Customs Department, had visited the office of the complainant of 21.07.95 and demanded Rs. 5,00,000/- from the complainant and threatened him to initiate a case against him. Thereafter, they had agreed to accept Rs. 2.5 lakh and directed the complainant to pay Rs. one lakh as first installment on 25.07.95. CBI laid a trap and the accused public servants were caught red handed while demanding & accepting bribe from the complainant.
After investigation of the case, chargesheet was filed against three then Inspectors of Central Excise & Custom, Custom House, Ahmedabad. During trial, one Inspector had expired. Hence, the case against him was abated by the Court.
