The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has selected three Biometric Solution agencies and awarded contract to consortiums led by M/s Accenture, Mahindra Satyam ~ Morpho and L1 Identity Solutions to implement the core biometric identification system in for the “Aadhaar” programme.

Office of the Chief Commissioner of Income Tax (CCI-T) has made special arrangements for acceptance of returns from assessees to handle the rush it is likely to witness during the current week. The last day for filing of returns for the assessment year 2010-11 is July 31 (Saturday). The CCI-T has set up special return receipt counters at all the Income Tax offices where taxpayers are assessed.

With the pendency of cases refusing to come down from the 50,000 level, the Supreme Court on Monday decided to experiment with email notices to respondents to cut the delay in the traditional method of serving notices. The traditional method -- registered post with acknowledgement due -- usually takes a long time and mostly results in adjournment of hearings because of non-service of the notices on the respondents.
